iBeaken: smart info on your smartphone

iBeaken is a virtual interactive beacon that sends information about a work of art, building, monument, object, flower, etc to your smartphone and if possible, in your own language.
iBeaken is first and foremost a storyteller that makes history come to life with an extensive description, remarkable details and fascinating anecdotes.
iBeaken works both indoors (with Wi-Fi) and outdoors (with 3G, GPRS) with ALL smartphones and without downloading any extra software.

iBeaken introduces ‘Clusters’ !

Posted By iBeaken01 on August 24, 2010

Many people want the power of iBeaken at their venue, but they don’t want too many labels or codes taking away the attention of the works…

The ‘Clusters’ are the ideal solution for every situation !   A Cluster is a group of iBeaken behind ONE code.  This has different advantages :

  • you can tell more about one item, divide a complicated story in different items.  e.g. of one work or object, you can tell something about technique, background or the artist itself – the visitor chooses himself what he finds interesting…
  • you can tell the story of different objects in one location, using only one code : e.g. in a church you have twelve objects – putting up one code outside the church gives the visitor the possibility to view the objects when the church is closed, and there is no ‘visual pollution’ inside…

Each seperate iBeaken is represented by a large clickable thumbnail and title, so your visitors won’t miss anything !!

We implemented ‘clusters’ in one of the beautiful villages of wallonia : Clermont…

  • Use your smartphone to surf to iBeaken.mobi and use the code ‘clermont’
  • OR use our http://ibeaken.mobi/simulator and use code ‘clermont’

New standard labels…

Posted By iBeaken01 on June 9, 2010

With the implementation of the QR code and some ‘instructions’ we needed a better label for inside use.  The new iBeaken standard labels are now 10x10cm. Although it’s not obligatory to use our label, it’s easy to download and it’s best to give good exposure to where your information is stored…  all the information is written on one file !!

You can print this standard label in green, white and brown from your admin pages – immediately with the right iB and QR code !

At the same time we have added a warning saying ‘operator costs may apply’ and a link to a cool QR code reader : Lynkee.

This is a (downsized) sample :

If you want custom labels in your own look & feel or with your logo, sponsor, etc… and warning texts in your own language –  just give us a ring…

Inauguration Floreffe iBeakens

Posted By iBeaken01 on April 26, 2010

Today, the first iBeakens in Wallonia have been inaugurated in Floreffe… in presence of the provincial deputy M. J-M. van Espen, the mayor of Floreffe M. A. Bodson and the director of the tourist office of Floreffe M. J-P. Dave.

It was the clear intenton of the mayor M. Bodson and his director of Tourisme M. Dave to take a step towards the smartphone revolution and put Floreffe on the map as a precursor in this field in Wallonia. The complete crew of Floreffe has worked fast and extremely efficient – from the first contact, writing the texts, printing the labels, putting up the poles and the inauguration, no more than 4 months have passed !!

View the item at the local televisionstation CanalC.

The 23 iBeakens can be visited along the 170km walking circuits around Floreffe – they make the visitor discover the region from another point of view, with more detailed info and historical insight.
